Week 1: Course introduction

In week one students are required to participate in a forum discussing presenting and getting to know one another. Additionally, students will need to send in a presentation recording as well as deliver a PowerPoint to their coach for analysis. This will form the basis of the coaching over the next 4 weeks.

Week 2: Frame your message

Know your audience’s expectations and define your communication objective concisely. Furthermore, we will teach you how to refine the message by understanding your audience and what they want out of the presentation. Finally, we will look into understanding strategies for persuasive presentations.

Week 3: Develop powerful openings:

Learn how to use stories or anecdote as a way to open. We will also teach how to use problem/solution to engage your audience and get them thinking. Moreover, you will learn how to harness a controversial opinion for attention or to use startling facts or surprising figures to grab your audiences attention.

Week 4: Keep your audience interested:

Here we will cover key methods for maintaining interest. You will learn how to make your opening and closing work well. We are going to show you how to motivate your audience to continue listening. This lesson will also reflect on using intonation, hand gestures and movement to engage your audience. You will learn the power of story telling in every day situations and finally, how to create amazing slides with powerful imagery to better transmit your ideas.

Week 5: Understand the Q&A process:

Taking questions can be scary, so in the last week of the programme you will learn how to understand the motivations for different question types, how to clarify questions and how to check understanding concisely. Finally, we are going to show you how to answer difficult questions and reflect on the course as a whole.
